Salary:  Remuneration package of up to $427,223 p.a. comprising salary range of $171,044 - $216,865 p.a. (L18-L27), recreational leave loading (17.5%), employer contribution to superannuation (12.75%), attraction and retention incentive allowance, regional and rural attraction allowance, motor vehicle allowance, professional development assistance (allowances and leave), and inaccessibility allowance (if applicable).  Level of appointment is dependent upon experience and advanced qualifications.

The role:  The position requires established skills in vascular and endovascular surgery and an ability to be registered to work as a Staff Specialist in Queensland.  The role involves regular open and endovascular surgery lists, out-patient clinics, in-patient ward rounds, involvement in the emergency on-call roster (approximately 1 in 3), out-reach clinics in Mackay, ultrasound reporting and opportunities for professional development/ research involvement and teaching.

Vascular Surgery Unit: The Unit is currently staffed by staff Specialists and a part-time Academic vascular specialist, registrars and RMOs.  The unit has established open and endovascular lists and currently undertakes over 700 procedures each year.  Common procedures including lower limb revascularisation by endovascular, open and combined procedures; endovascular aneurysm repair; carotid endarterectomy; open aortic surgery; AV fistula creation and maintenance; other vascular access procedures for oncology and renal purposes; venous surgery; and diabetic foot procedures. The unit is a tertiary referral centre for vascular problems, performs approximately 700 procedures annually and has a recently build hybrid endovascular suite.

Townsville Hospital and Health Service is the largest tertiary health service within northern Australia.  We deliver clinical services in eight locations over 149 500 square kilometres.  Our services include rural hospitals, health centres, multi-purpose health services, mental health rehabilitation, clinics and aged cared, supported by our innovative Telehealth services.

Townsville is the Northern Operational centre for Queensland Emergency Medical System Coordination Centres, coordinating a retrieval service via both helicopter and fixed-wing aircrafts, including neonatal retrievals for North Queensland.

The Townsville Hospital and Health Service is located adjacent to one of Queensland’s leading tertiary education facilities, James Cook University.  We are a major provider of undergraduate/postgraduate clinical placements and education across all health services and disciplines.  James Cook University and the Townsville HHS collaborate to conduct research within the organisation making a substantial contribution to the development of research and education policy.
