Consultant in Clinical Microbiology
Applications are invited for this exciting replacement post which offers the opportunity to become a key member of NHS Blood and Transplant (NHSBT) team working in a centre of excellence with the task of providing expert advice and leadership in clinical microbiology relating to donors and recipients of blood, tissues and organs. The post offers candidates an opportunity to develop a collaborative interest with either Public Health England (PHE) or an NHS Hospital Trust. The post is based at the NHSBT centre in Colindale, North London, situated adjacent to PHE, Colindale. The NHSBT microbiology reference laboratories are located at the Colindale site together with reference services for Red Cell Immuno haematology and Histocompatibility & Immunogenetics.
NHSBT is the provider of blood components and organs for transplantation to the NHS as well as supplying tissues, haematopoietic stem cells for transplantation, therapeutic apheresis and immune haematological diagnostics. NHSBT has a research and development programme in collaboration with leading academic centres, underpinned by infrastructure for systematic reviews and clinical trials. This post is designed to build on existing links between NHSBT and PHE specifically the well-established collaborations with the PHE Blood Borne Virus Unit and the joint NHSBT/PHE Epidemiology unit. For NHSBT you will be involved in providing clinical leadership in transfusion microbiology service delivery and contributing to the NHSBT microbiology research and development programme. You will also contribute to teaching and training in transfusion microbiology. As a member of our microbiology clinical team you will contribute to national and international policy and research and development in transfusion, tissue and organ microbiology.
