Surrey Pathology Services is a single NHS Pathology directorate serving Ashford and St Peter’s Hospital, Frimley Health and Royal Surrey County Hospital NHS Foundation Trusts including St Luke’s Cancer Centre with a combined catchment population of approximately 1.2m. As a part of pathology service reconfiguration, the Histology department is being centralised at Royal Surrey County Hospital with a view to developing full subspecialisation over the next 12-18 months. The Gynaecological cytology service has been centralised at St Peters Hospital. This is a progressive department with ambition to develop a strong molecular service and academic links through the clinical academic group status with the University of Surrey and its Veterinary School as well as maintaining links with Royal Holloway. 

Applications are invited for one permanent Consultant Histopathology/Cellular Pathology post to join a team of 18 consultant Histopathologists supporting clinical services across all three sites. The post is a replacement post following a retirement and will be based at St Peter’s Hospital in Chertsey. There will be a requirement for Non Gynae Cytology reporting within this post. 

Candidates should be medically qualified and must hold CCT accreditation (or be within 6 months of the award of CCT) and Fellowship of RCPath or equivalent. A high level of competence and full participation in diagnostic histopathology will be essential and involvement in departmental audit is required. Applicants both with and without well-developed subspecialty interests are encouraged to apply. Practitioners unable for personal reasons to work full time are welcome to apply for this post.
