Royal Glamorgan Hospital, Llantrisant
Applications are invited for the post of Consultant Histopathologist/Cytopathologist which is an additional post to join the cohort of 7.4 WTE staff.
Cwm Taf University Health board was formed by the merging of two previous NHS Trusts and their respective District General Hospitals (Royal Glamorgan opened 1999; Prince Charles Hospital opened 1978).
The Histopathology service has been centralised in the Royal Glamorgan Hospital. The department has close links with the regional tertiary pathology service based in Cardiff and is also part of the specialist pathology training scheme with two Specialty Registrars rotating through on a regular basis.
The new appointee will play a full and equal part in the development of the service; the role includes reporting all aspects of histopathology with the scope to sub-specialise to some extent, reporting non-gynaecological cytology cases, the option to report gynaecological screening cytology if desired and teaching histopathology trainees.
The laboratory is UKAS accredited. A recent service development has led to the incorporation of the Coronial autopsy workload into the programmed direct clinical care sessions within the Consultants’ NHS job plans and therefore attracts no additional remuneration. The appointee may be considered (but not obliged) to participate in this service.
