Opportunity for specialist interest

We are at an exciting stage of expansion of the respiratory department in Northampton General Hospital. You have the opportunity not only to get involved with our plans to expand into home NIV, thoracoscopy and setting up new ideas to support urgent referrals but also to pursue your particular specialist interest.

We have a great and ambitious team here at Northampton General. You will have friendly, supportive and collaborative colleagues and be supported by very dedicated respiratory physiologists, a team of COPD outreach nurses and physiotherapists (RESTART), a team of Macmillan nurses, secretaries and reception staff. We hope this will make your life a little easier and let you focus on being the best Consultant you can be.

We already offer specialist clinics in pleural disease, lung cancer and TB as well as bronchoscopy and EBUS services. All specialist consultants within the hospital support the general medical take out of hours.

You are supported to take study leave with a budget of up to £3000 over 3 years to enhance your personal development and stay at the cutting edge of your specialty. We already have a strong commitment to medical student training and agreements are in place to expand our academic involvement in teaching and research significantly over the coming years. We hope you would be part of this process. Northampton is an area of rapid expansion and is an affordable and exciting place to live, full of hidden gems! There are great facilities locally and easy access to other areas of the Midlands and South.

All applicants must possess a recognised medical degree, MRCP or equivalent and must be on the specialist register for Respiratory and Acute/General Internal Medicine on the day of interview.

For further information or for an informal discussion please contact Dr Brian Richardson (Department Lead), or Dr Andrew Jeffrey on 01604 544362 or Dr Fiona McCann or Dr Philip Pearson on 01604 545797.
