We are seeking to appoint a substantive consultant physician in Diabetes and Endocrinology (D&E) at Whipps Cross Hospital, Barts Health NHS Trust. This is a new post that has become available due to an expansion in current service provision. You will work alongside the established D&E consultants - Dr Abdul Lakhdar (Clinical Lead), Dr Kalpita Majumdar, Dr Rina Davison and Dr John Flood (Acute and D&E) to support provision of inpatient and outpatient care for patients with diabetes and endocrine problems. Full registration with the GMC is essential.

You will support provision of inpatient care for patients with metabolic and general medical problems, and also outpatient care for patients with diabetes or endocrine presentations. Furthermore, the appointee will be expected to develop and lead inpatient diabetes within the hospital, and contribute actively to community diabetes MDTs and/ or virtual clinics. You will contribute to the teaching of undergraduate and postgraduate medical staff. You will be expected to partake in the general medical on call rota.

The D&E department provides inpatient and outpatient care, offering an extensive range of specialist clinics. There are specialist clinics in antenatal diabetes, paediatric transition, insulin pumps, diabetic foot and lipid disorders. There is also an expanding community-led diabetes service, predominantly for our type 2 diabetes population. There is a site-based weekly radiology MDT meeting, and regular attendance at the Barts radiology MDT. The department has highly experienced clinical nurse specialists in diabetes. Ward and outpatient work is supported by a full complement of junior doctors. A regular multi-disciplinary governance meeting is in place. There is also a weekly journal club, with regular input from external speakers.

For further information on this post please contact Dr Kalpita Majumdar, Deputy Lead for D&E at Whipps Cross University Hospital. Telephone 0208 535 6781 or email kalpita.majumdar@bartshealth.nhs.uk
