Consultant Anaesthetists posts with Interests in Emergency Surgery and Colorectal Surgery
Applications are invited for the post(s) of Consultant Anaesthetist at the Royal Bournemouth and Christchurch Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust. Regular specialist interest in Emergency Surgery (Post 1) and Colorectal/General Surgery (Post 2) are welcomed, although specific specialist interests can be developed with agreement, these include ophthalmics, preoperative assessments, orthopaedic and regional anaesthesia lists.
The post holder will join the existing team of 30 Consultants. The friendly team provides anaesthesia services for Royal Bournemouth and Christchurch Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust, including intensive care; and works closely with Poole Hospital especially with regard to education and training.
This is a full-time post 10PA contract. An additional 1.0 Direct Care PA may be offered based on service requirements and specialist interests can be accommodated. Broad experience is required particularly in emergency, orthopaedics, regional and vascular anaesthesia. On call commitments are to be confirmed, but it is expected that out of hours duties will be minimal on commencement (until retirements occur). The applicant must have FRCA or equivalent and be on the GMC Specialist Register or have their CCT. Applicants who are within six months of obtaining their CCT may also apply.
The Royal Bournemouth Hospital is situated in an ideal location where leisure activities abound, especially in the nearby New Forest (cycling and mountain biking); opportunities for water sports are also abundant. Good local housing is to be found with high quality local schools nearby. London is only 90 minutes by train and further details on the locality can be found at the trusts web site: www.rbch.nhs.uk
The Trust has extensive links with Bournemouth University, resulting in opportunities for research and involvement in training of allied medical staff. This year our department gained a grant from the Health Foundation for innovative research in management of complex acute pain. We have active Enhanced Recovery After Surgery programs, which include preoperative evaluation including CPEX testing. Applicants can develop interest in these areas.
In the near future, Dorset Health is undergoing restructure and the hospital may find additional work streams and a wider case mix being undertaken. This will provide a wider anaesthetic experience to be available to the successful candidates.
