An exciting opportunity has arisen to join an innovative team at the BRI. This post is to support and enhance the Liaison Psychiatry Service that provides specialist input to University Hospitals Bristol NHS Foundation Trust.

The enthusiastic and committed team consists of three consultant liaison psychiatrists (2.1 WTE), one Band 8 Clinical Team Manager, 6.5 WTE Band 7 RMNs, 1 WTE Specialty Doctor (this post), as well as Foundation, Core and Specialty Training grade Doctors.

The team works 7 days per week, 7am-9pm and aims to provide optimum assessment and management of referrals from the general medical and surgical wards including those who present following self harm. You will be a key player of the multidisciplinary team, offering specialist psychiatric advice in the acute hospital setting. You will be involved in the assessment and treatment of disorders commonly presented including self harm, mental disorders associated with physical illness and the range of somatoform disorders.

You will be encouraged to participate in academic meetings and postgraduate activities. The post provides good opportunities for professional development, including participation in teaching, audit and research. You will also receive weekly supervision. There are no on call responsibilities with this post. The team works 7 days per week and it is expected that the medical cover will extend to 7 days in the near future.

You require 4 years whole time hospital service at ST1 – ST3 Trainee level or higher, and at least 12 months postgraduate experience in psychiatry. You will be experienced in the assessment and treatment of psychiatric problems in adults of working age within an acute hospital setting and be practiced in dealing with crisis situations. You should demonstrate outstanding communication skills and be flexible under pressure. The ability to work collaboratively in a multidisciplinary team is essential as is the ability to liaise effectively with staff from other disciplines and external agencies.
