Applications are invited for a Consultant in Oral and Maxillofacial surgery which offers an excellent opportunity within a dynamic and progressive Trust.

The candidate should be a Maxillofacial surgeon with a special interest in Head & Neck Oncology. Specific interests should complement those of existing Consultants, and include expertise in microvascular reconstructive surgery, although additional sub specialist interests will be encouraged. East Kent Hospitals University NHS Trust is the 6th largest Trust in the UK having been awarded foundation status, and in partnership with the primary care trusts is fully committed to the development and continued provision of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery within the hospital service.

The Maxillofacial and Orthodontic Unit is centralised at the purpose built unit at the William Harvey Hospital in Ashford where it has become part of the Head and Neck centre for Kent aligned to ENT and Ophthalmology.

This post will be part of a team of 5 maxillofacial consultants and also part of the Head and Neck Cancer multidisciplinary team. The department provides services for a population of approximately 720,000 people in East Kent and beyond.  The post will be based at the William Harvey Hospital, Ashford but the appointee will be expected to work on other sites across the Trust. The appointee will be expected to play an active role in teaching all members of a multi disciplinary team including middle grade level and DCT level.

East Kent is ideally suited for access into London and as a gateway to Europe. There are many areas of unspoilt countryside and some quiet secluded beaches as well as the main centres of population.  The Stour Valley runs through the area and there are expanses of great natural beauty and charm together with many places of historic interest. 

There are outstanding local sporting facilities including sailing and golf and the area has excellent housing and schools. The Continent is within immediate reach through the Channel Ports and Channel Tunnel. You can be in France within forty minutes or in Paris in two hours and with the new high speed train link central London is just over thirty minutes away
