Dr Gray’s Hospital, Elgin, Morayshire
Salary £78,304 - £105,570 per annum
Full-time 40 hrs per week
Applications are invited for the post of Consultant Anaesthetist at Dr Gray’s Hospital in Elgin. This is an opportunity to join our department of nine Consultant Anaesthetists providing a Consultant-based service in this small but busy district general hospital.
Dr Gray’s Hospital dates from the early 19th century, with a recent, modern hospital built alongside the beautiful, original buildings. It has 100 acute beds, and a modern operating department, with four theatres and a day-surgery unit. There is a busy Emergency Department and a combined High Dependency and Coronary Care Unit with 10 beds. Patients requiring intensive care facilities are stabilised, prior to transfer to a regional ICU by air or road.
Surgical specialties include Orthopaedics and Trauma, Obstetrics and Gynaecology, General Surgery and Urology, Ophthalmology, Dental Surgery, and ENT Surgery. Surgery for elective and emergency procedures is carried out almost exclusively by Consultant surgical staff, in the spirit of a Consultant-based service.
Moray is an area of outstanding natural beauty on the edge of the Highlands. Elgin is a historic county town, population 20,000, which is a centre for the farming, fishing and distilling industries. The local area is also renowned for salmon fishing, hill-walking and climbing. Rainfall is very low in this area, with sunshine hours comparable with the south of England.
