Consultant in Neurology
Lewisham and Greenwich NHS Trust requires a dynamic and forward thinking consultant for a replacement substantive post in Neurology at the Queen Elizabeth Hospital (QEH) and University Hospital Lewisham (UHL) sites.
The vacancy has arisen as the previous post holder was appointed to a Professorial Chair. The substantive consultant will work closely with the 7 existing Consultants within the Neurology services across the sites of the new Trust. The Lewisham and Greenwich NHS Trust was created in 2013 from a merger of the Queen Elizabeth Hospital with University Hospital Lewisham, as part of a reconfiguration of services in South East London recommended by the Health Secretary, and it also provides dermatology services to Bexley residents at Queen Mary’s Hospital Sidcup.
The hospitals cover the London Boroughs of Lewisham, Greenwich and parts of Bexley, with a combined population of more than 500,000 people, and the consultant will work at QEH in the first instance. The new consultant will run outpatient clinics, carry out ward consultations for acute inpatients, and support student teaching.
In addition to 4 Consultants in the Neurology Unit at QEH (Dr Giovanni Cocco, Dr Bazo Raheem, Dr Michael Rose and Dr Eli Silber), there is also an MS and a Parkinson’s Disease Neurology Nurse Specialist, and we are currently out to advert for an Epilepsy Nurse Specialist. The existing consultants have specialist interests in MS, movement disorders, muscle disease and epilepsy. There is a part time Neuroradiologist (Dr Tim Hampton) on site and a full-time SHO/fellow to support the inpatient consultation service.
At University Hospital Lewisham, the existing Consultants include Professor Ray Chaudhuri, Dr Asra Siddiqui and Dr Katerina Angeli, and a full time Specialty Doctor in Neurology, supported by a Nurse Specialist in Parkinson’s Disease. The existing consultants have specialist interests in movement disorders, epilepsy and stroke.
The post is based full-time at Lewisham and Greenwich NHS Trust, but the departments have strong links with the Regional Neuroscience Centre at King’s College Hospital, and the successful candidate will be expected to join the weekly Academic Neurology and Neuroradiology meetings at KCH.
All candidates must be fully registered with the GMC and hold a licence to practise and be on the Specialist Register or within 6 months of obtaining their CCT.
The trust is located in a pleasant part of South East London, with easy access to central London and the Kent countryside. There is a wide range of residential areas with excellent local amenities and schools.
Informal enquiries and visits are welcome – please contact Dr Gerald Coakley (Clinical Director) on 020 8836 4923 or email@example.com, or Dr Eli Silber (Clinical Lead) on 020 8836 5575 or firstname.lastname@example.org.
