Tests of Competence and Revalidation Assessment Panel Vice Chair
The General Medical Council (GMC) helps to protect patients and improve medical education and practice in the UK by setting standards for students and doctors. We support them in achieving (and exceeding) those standards, and take action when they are not met.
When we receive concerns from employers or patients about aspects of a doctor’s performance, their knowledge and skills may be assessed using tests of competence. These are tailored specifically to a doctor’s scope of practice and include a knowledge test and a clinical exam of at least 12 scenarios. Also, for doctors that do not have a Responsible Officer or
Suitable Person, the GMC uses the revalidation assessment
as part of the objective evidence considered when evaluating
whether to revalidate a doctor.
We’re looking for a Tests of Competence and Revalidation Assessment Panel Vice-Chair to manage a newly formed panel of expert clinicians and to provide advice to the GMC on the development and operation of both assessment processes, overseen by the GMC. This will include selection of content, assisting with piloting, standard setting, editing and supporting the ongoing statistical analysis of the assessment process.
This role requires a commitment of at least eight days a year to attend group meetings and other activities which will usually be held in Manchester or London.
Applicants should hold registration with the GMC as well as recent practise and/or an academic appointment in medical education. Demonstrable experience and standing in the fields of assessment and/or medical education is essential.
As part of our commitment to diversity, we seek members from a wide range of backgrounds and actively encourage applications from BME doctors, female doctors and doctors with a disability.
