Applications are invited from trainees for the position of CDF in acute care clinical specialties in NHS Ayrshire and Arran who, by August 2016, will have successfully completed the UK Foundation Programme. 

The CDFs posts will afford successful applicants the opportunity to experience acute care clinical specialties of professional interest to them prior to committing to a future Core or Specialty training programme. 

The construct of the post will be agreed with the successful candidate and will normally be for 12 months in a single specialty.  However where the candidate’s career plans would be enhanced by spending time in a combination of specialties this would be considered. Consideration would also be given to applicants who would prefer only a 6 month position from either August or February 2018.

Specialties will include Acute and Emergency Medicine, General Medical sub-specialties, Geriatric Medicine and Core Surgical specialties including Trauma & Orthopaedics.

In combination with the clinical component, each CDF will be assigned (under discussion) an area of personal and professional developmental interest in Clinical Teaching & Education, Simulation & Skills training, Research and Quality Improvement, Leadership and Management or Medical Informatics.  These activities will be supported through a mentorship programme and successful candidates will receive up to £2500 to support agreed development activities in their chosen area of interest. 

The CDFs will work under supervision with local clinical teams to develop skills in the clinical areas of their choice. They will also contribute to out of hours activity for the specialty including Hospital at Night.  .

A pay banding supplement will be paid to recognise contribution to out of hours working  and the core salary will be will be based on a salary range of £31,220 - £49091. The posts are not recognised for training.   Applicants must hold Full GMC Registration with a current Licence to Practice.
