non training post in
General Paediatrics, General Paediatric Surgery and Orthopaedic Surgery
Reference: 411-Medicine-2017-07018 and
Clinical Fellow (ST4 and above) in
Paediatric Emergency Medicine (two posts)

An exciting opportunity at Alder Hey Children`s NHS Foundation Trust: we are looking for enthusiastic doctors who are keen to develop their paediatric experience in medicine, surgery, orthopaedics, or emergency medicine. Whilst the posts are not recognised for training we would offer regular teaching and look to aid and support applications for paediatric medical and surgical training.

Alder Hey Children’s NHS Foundation Trust is a major teaching hospital associated with the University of Liverpool. It serves not only the children of Liverpool, but is the tertiary referral centre for children from Merseyside, Cheshire, parts of Lancashire, Cumbria, Shropshire and North Wales for many paediatric sub-specialties. The hospital has over 300 beds, including day beds for surgery, a medical day care unit and observation beds in the Emergency Department. Alder Hey Children’s Hospital has the biggest and busiest Emergency Department in Europe, seeing around 60,000 children and young people each year.

The FY3/ST1 posts are new full time (48 hours/week) posts in Paediatric Medicine (4 posts) Paediatric Surgery (2 posts) and Orthopaedic Surgery (2 posts) for an initial period of 6 months, though longer contracts may be available. Doctors applying would have needed to have completed their foundation training programme. The post would involve on-call commitments and attract a 1A banding supplement.

In addition to these posts, there are 2 Clinical Fellows posts for Paediatric Emergency Medicine (PEM) for grades ST4 and above. Please see job description and personal specification for these posts. These posts would be ideal for doctors wishing to gain further skills and/or consolidate their PEM experience. The Emergency Department at Alder Hey is a Major Trauma Centre for the surrounding region. The successful applicant will join an experienced multidisciplinary team who engage in regular simulation, teaching and research.

This is an exciting time to be at Alder Hey as we have recently moved into state of the art facilities in the Children's Health Park, including an Innovation Hub. In addition there is a purpose built Research and Education Centre situated on the hospital site which is available for all postgraduate educational activity.

The paediatric medical and surgical services and expertise within the hospital are considerable. From a medical point of view they include Haematology/Oncology, Nephrology, Endocrinology, Diabetes, Res-piratory medicine, Rheumatology, Gastroenterology, Neurology and General Paediatrics  From a surgical perspective the services include General Surgery, Orthopaedics, Neonatal Surgery and Cardiothoracic surgery. A Child and Adolescent Mental Health Service is also provided with an in-patient unit allied to the Trust.
