Senior Clinical Academic in Genomic Medicine/Molecular Pathology
Applications are invited for a new senior clinical academic post in the Centre for Genomic and Experimental Medicine, at the MRC Institute for Genetics and Molecular Medicine (IGMM), University of Edinburgh. This is a key strategic appointment, designed to strengthen the Centre’s pursuit of ambitious goals by actively progressing our research objectives in molecular pathology and genomic medicine, and promoting translational activity in molecular diagnostics and disease stratification. This will complement, enhance and build capacity in the considerable existing genomic medicine and molecular pathology research strengths in Edinburgh.
The successful candidate will be appointed at consultant level and be an outstanding academic genome medicine physician or molecular pathologist with a proven record of research endeavour and academic excellence. For candidates with exceptional clinical and research experience who do not yet meet the requirements for appointment to a Chair, the University may consider appointment at Senior Clinical Fellow/Senior Clinical Lecturer/Reader level. The appointee will be expected to contribute to Centre and Institute initiatives for major infrastructure and programmatic funding, to secure his/her own research grant funding and to support and develop genomic medicine/molecular pathology research across the University, NHS Lothian, and with external collaborators.
The IGMM has a close partnership with NHS Lothian and the appointee will work closely with the departments of Pathology, Molecular Pathology and Clinical Genetics sited at the Western General Hospital and the Edinburgh Royal Infirmary, where clinical work will be based.
This post therefore represents an exciting opportunity for an individual keen to shape the strategic development of a burgeoning priority area of research within an excellent academic and clinical environment at the University of Edinburgh.
The candidate must be eligible to hold an honorary consultant contract and be eligible for inclusion on the GMC Specialist Register. A Clinical Geneticist or Pathologist are the most likely candidate specialties, but we would welcome applications from candidates in other specialties who otherwise meet the requirements.
We welcome applications from everyone irrespective of gender or ethnic group. As women and members of ethnic minorities are currently under-represented in posts at this level we particularly encourage applications from members of these groups.
Closing date: 13th July 2017.
