The Heart of England NHS Foundation Trust encompasses Birmingham Heartlands Hospital, Good Hope Hospital, Solihull Hospital and Solihull Community Services and serves one of the largest populations of any NHS Trust.

Our community is socially and ethnically amongst the most diverse to be found within the UK

The Elderly Care Directorate at the Heart of England Foundation Trust (HEFT),provides a comprehensive service for older patients, both in hospital and the neighbouring community and leads on the care of frail older people with acute illness, stroke and orthopaedic rehabilitation.

We are currently reviewing our services and working towards further development of our current care pathways, incorporating intergraded working with community teams and development of Ambulatory care for frail patients through the introduction of a frailty hub, working as part of a multidisciplinary team with ACPs and therapies. Introducing Comprehensive Geriatric Assessments (CGA) within ED to further improve the quality of care for our frail patients in a timely manner.

This is an exciting time for the department and an excellent opportunity for the appointed candidate to assist in the future design of the Elderly Care services at HEFT and at Birmingham at large to support a growing elderly population.

The existing Elderly Care Consultants pride themselves on providing high quality clinical presence, together with high standards of education, training, research and audit. The Elderly Care Directorate work innovatively to enhance patient care and develop the services already provided, in collaboration with specialty and community teams. Team members are actively engaged in research, delivery of training and development of high quality educational programmes. The new post holder will be expected to work within the Consultant group to provide high quality clinical care, as well as contributing to the development of Frailty and Elderly Medicine as a specialty.

Our Consultant team has a culture of mutual respect and colleague support. This extends to all new team members who we welcome not only as colleagues, but also as friends. The departments are all within easy reach of motorway and train networks, and Birmingham International airport, giving opportunities for city or rural living.

The posts are to join our current established workforce of 16 Consultants. The Senior Clinical team work across all 3 sites, though the post is primarily based on one site, the post holder is expected to work across the sites for service provision and cross cover when need arises. Please review job description for site specific information. Applicants should advise on application preference of site.

Candidates must possess MRCP or equivalent, and be on the Specialist Register in Geriatric and General Medicine or be within 6 months of CCT in Geriatric and General Medicine. Applicants must be entered onto the GMC register.
