We are entering an exciting period of development within Elderly Medicine at The Luton and Dunstable Hospital (L&D). Due to new pathway development and investment we have three exciting Job opportunities for Consultant Physicians in Elderly Medicine.

The Trust has recently received an overall ‘Good’ for services at the L&D following its recent CQC inspection The Directorate of Elderly Medicine is within the Division of Medicine, this is broken into three distinct areas, Acute, General and Elderly Medicine (Non-Elective), Emergency Medicine and Specialist Medicine (Elective). Both in patient and out patient services are based at the L&D.

The Clinical Directorate of Elderly Medicine is supported by 5 wte consultants and their junior teams. Our Consultants also manage patients on our Infection Control ward and our Rehabilitation ward.

Complex elderly clinics are provided on-site at the L&D with consultants specialising in diabetes, falls, syncope and parkinsons supported by specialist nurses as well as general elderly medical clinics.

The Medical Directorate has thirty-five consultants in medicine and sub-specialties together with four Consultants in Acute Medicine who look after the Acute Care Unit.

The Trust has University Hospital status with UCL and the Royal Free providing an opportunity to strengthen our teaching and R&D programmes and brings an academic environment to the hospital.

Excellent schools are found nearby. There’s also good access to the Midlands and London by road using the M1 or A1, or by rail to one of Luton’s three stations. A direct link using the new ‘Busway’ takes passengers from Luton Train station just 7 minutes to reach a stop within a short walking distance of the hospital. London Luton Airport is close by. Residence is required within ten miles by road or up to thirty minutes travelling time of the hospital.
