The University Hospitals Bristol (UHBristol) NHS Foundation Trust is looking to appoint a Consultant Haematologist based at the Bristol Haematology and Oncology Centre (BHOC) and at Weston General Hospital.
UHBristol is one of the largest acute Trusts in the country, rated ‘outstanding’ by the CQC in 2016 and a major teaching and research centre for the South West. The Bristol Haematology Unit provides Level 4 haematology care to patients of Bristol and surrounding area (including Weston). It has an in-patient ward of 24 beds, an integrated haematology day unit and an apheresis unit.
There is an active clinical trials unit at BHOC with close links to the University of Bristol and the University of the West of England. Post holder will be encouraged to develop teaching and research interests.
Weston Area Health NHS Trust (WHAT) provides acute services for a 200,000-strong local population and for 2.5 million summer visitors to this popular West Country seaside resort. The Trust employs 2000 staff and provides 259 beds. Services include in-patient facilities for surgical and medical specialties, as well as maternity services, community paediatrics and child and adolescent mental health services. There is a dedicated education building and a medical day-case unit. The haematology /oncology day unit manages approximately 380 oncology patients and 250 haematology patients per month.
This post will be responsible for delivering an integrated clinical and laboratory haematology service between the 2 Trusts. This post involves working 3 days/week in Weston and 2 days/week in Bristol. The candidate would be expected to develop subspecialist interest within the leukaemia service at UHBristol and support the general haematology and leukaemia service at Weston. The Weston service is supported by 4 haematology consultants (including this post), a full-time specialty doctor and clinical nurse specialists.
The successful candidate will join a team of 16 haematology consultants at UH Bristol, of which 3 other posts are joint UHBristol/Weston posts. Post-holder will take part in ~3 clinics/ week, attend a weekly haematology MDT in Bristol and participate in the lab and/or ward attending and on call rota.
Applicants must be registered with the GMC with a valid licence to practice and have completed Specialist Training (or equivalent) and be entered on the Specialist Register of the GMC, or have a CCT date in Haematology within six months of the date of interview.
