We are recruiting for a Consultant in Microbiology. The successful applicant will join experienced colleagues in delivering a clinical and diagnostic microbiology service to UHL and General Practitioners. The team of microbiology consultants provide microbiology support to three large teaching hospitals, several peripheral hospitals and general practitioners covering a population of approximately one million. The well-equipped department has full accreditation with UKAS and forms part of empath. This is joint pathology partnership between UHL and Nottingham University Hospitals Trust to create one of the largest single managed pathology services in the UK. There will be significant opportunity for change and development to the current microbiology and virology service and bring more benefits to patients, teaching and research.
All applicants should have FRCPath (or evidence of equivalent training and experience), full GMC registration and should be eligible for entry on the Specialist Register within 6 months of the interview date.
You are expected to participate in undergraduate and postgraduate teaching (including supervision, training, assessment and appraisal of specialist registrars, clinical scientists, and trainee healthcare scientists), clinical audit, research and development. You will also be required to undertake management duties and work within a multidisciplinary team.
The appointment is whole time. Any consultant who is unable for personal reasons, to work whole time, will be eligible to be considered for the post. If such a person is appointed, modification of the job content will be discussed on a personal basis in consultation with consultant colleagues.
