Wellington Regional Hospital is one of the newest hospitals in New Zealand and one of five tertiary level teaching hospitals in the country. It is a state of the art facility with innovative models of care.

The Department of Anaesthesia and Pain Management, Capital and Coast District Health Board is seeking applications from Specialist Paediatric Anaesthetists for a fixed-term period. Clinical work will encompass paediatric and adult anaesthesia for a wide range of surgical specialties, preoperative assessment of patients, involvement in acute post operative pain management, and participation in the paediatric anaesthesia on-call roster. A challenging, tertiary level, case-mix is offered but can be tailored to the individuals past experience and areas of interest.

Capital and Coast District Health Board's hospitals include Wellington Regional Hospital (servicing a tertiary population of 900,000) and Kenepuru Hospital (a secondary level community hospital). There are a total of 19 operating theatres. We provide anaesthesia for all surgical specialties with the exception of plastic surgery, paediatric cardiac surgery and Heart and Lung Transplant Surgery.

The department has an active education programme that includes Australian and New Zealand College of Anaesthetists fellowship training for 20 trainees, continuing education for specialists and participation in an on-site, high-fidelity simulation training suite (The Wellington Regional Centre for Simulation and Skills Education). Recent development of a new research and education centre provides opportunity to pursue research interests. An attractive employment package, including competitive allowances for on-call work and full-time commitment, is available.

Applicants should be Fellows of the Australian and New Zealand College of Anaesthetists or have an equivalent specialist qualification and be eligible for vocational registration with the Medical Council of New Zealand.
