Consultant in Supportive and Palliative Care Medicine
The Supportive Care Team at The Christie NHS Foundation Trust is seeking appointment of a full-time substantive consultant in palliative medicine
We are a large team within the regional cancer centre, which serves a population of 3.2 million people. The Christie is the largest single site cancer centre in Europe, and treats more than 44,000 patients each year.
The Supportive Care Team supports patients from diagnosis through to recovery (both curative and palliative), as well as providing outstanding care during the last days and weeks of life. We have a special interest in supportive care: the prevention and management of the adverse effects of cancer and cancer treatment.
We are a pioneering and award-winning team. We lead nationally on the development of Enhanced Supportive Care (ESC). This new initiative in cancer care aims to provide patients with better access to expertise in supportive care at an early stage. ESC is currently being rolled out in several cancer centres across England within a national NHS England CQUIN.
We are well integrated within oncology. We have recently launched novel joint clinics between supportive care and acute oncology (‘ESC clinic’), and also a new joint clinic with the experimental cancer medicine team. These initiatives broaden access to supportive care for patients undergoing active anti-cancer therapies at different stages.
If you are interested in applying and would like to discuss the opportunity informally, please contact Dr Richard Berman, lead consultant, supportive care team, The Christie NHS Foundation Trust, Richard.Berman@christie.nhs.uk; telephone 0161 446 3559
