The appointment will be made, dependent on current profession and grade, within the King’s College London Clinical Research Fellow scale £31,614 - £40,090 per annum plus £2,162 London Weighting Allowance per annum.

This post will be a Fixed Term Contract for a maximum of 12 months.

This is a Full-time post, 40 hours per week. Applications for part-time hours will be considered.

Applications are invited from clinical specialist trainees who are undergoing specialist training (ST3-5) in the UK, who are committed to developing a research career in the areas of mental health clinical neuroscience or the interface between physical and mental health. 

This exciting opportunity is supported by the NIHR Maudsley Biomedical Research Centre with research training provided within an established research team at the Institute of Psychiatry, Psychology and Neuroscience, King’s College London. This post is available for up to 12-months full-time, but shorter-term and part-time posts are also options. 

Preparatory Fellowships are designed to provide the time, resources and support to help bridge the gap between current training/employment and further professional and career development in research. The Fellow will be expected to plan, prepare and submit an application to an external funding body to continue their research training (e.g. through a 3-year Clinician Training Fellowship), research grant or other Career Development award. 

The post holder will benefit from expert supervision and access to resources and infrastructure across the organisation.

The NIHR Maudsley Biomedical Research Centre (BRC) is a partnership between South London and Maudsley NHS Foundation Trust and the Institute of Psychiatry, Psychology & Neuroscience at King's College London. It is also part of the King's Health Partners Academic Health Sciences Centre.

Our aim is to undertake experimental medicine and translational research which accelerates the translation of the latest scientific discoveries into first-in-man clinical trials, which can be developed and implemented to produce new tests and treatments for patients with mental health problems.

We are developing individualised treatments for patients and supporting advances in the prevention, diagnosis, treatment and care of mental ill health and dementia. To do this, we bring together researchers, clinicians, allied health professionals and service users from across our clinical and academic partnership, who work together to meet the challenges of finding better treatments and improving care for our patients.

The selection process will include a presentation and panel interview
