Consultant Cardiologists accommodating special interests which can be tailored to meet the skills of applicants

Three positions available

Applications are invited for three new joint cardiology posts with the potential to accommodate special interests with sessions that can be adapted to suit the training and interests of individuals. These are substantive posts created to meet the increasing demand for service development across both Trusts and help to develop seven day working, and form part of a very extensive expansion of cardiology services on both sites. These are shared posts with working across both organisations.

There is a very successful ongoing partnership agreement between MCHFT and UHNM with a close working relationship between cardiac services. There are a number of existing consultants working across both sites. The two sites work as a single unified cardiac service with extensive clinical and managerial integration. We are seeking highly motivated cardiologists who will complement and expand this collaboration.

The post holders will provide continuing responsibility for patients in their charge. He/she will be a member of the relevant Divisional, Trust and Regional Committees. He/she will be expected to participate in the immediate management functions and strategic planning of the divisions and Trusts at both sites.

Applicants must have full registration with the GMC including a License to Practice, and be on the Specialist Register (or be within six months of obtaining their Certificate of Completion of Training).

The posts are offered on a full-time basis; however the Trust would welcome discussion with individuals looking for a more flexible working pattern to support a different work/life balance.

Mid Cheshire Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust

Nestled in the heart of Cheshire, with green fields bordering the site on every side, Mid Cheshire Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust staff benefit from great work, home, education and leisure opportunities. The Trust has three sites, including its headquarters at Leighton Hospital in Crewe – 35 minutes from Manchester or Liverpool and less than an hour away from Birmingham, yet only half an hour away from the Peak District. There are some excellent day nurseries and schools in the local area, including 22 Ofsted ‘Outstanding Providers’.

The Trust has a formal clinical partnership with its nearby University Hospital, and benefits from local universities in Crewe (Manchester Metropolitan University) and in Chester. The Trust serves two hundred and eighty thousand patients in the south west Cheshire area. The Trust was rated as ‘Good’ by the CQC from its October 2014 full inspection, has a good reputation for research and benefits from some of the very latest clinical facilities; these include Critical Care, neonatal intensive care, a new suite of state-of-the-art theatres and a dedicated day-case Treatment Centre. The Trust has invested significantly in recent years in clinical expansion and hospital mortality is in line with national standards across a range of indicators. The Cardiology service at Mid Cheshire Hospitals is undergoing extensive development and expansion. The successful applicants will join three highly committed cardiologists, two of whom also have responsibilities at UHNM. There is a highly developed infrastructure for non-invasive diagnostic cardiology providing Dobutamine and exercise stress echocardiography, cardiac MRI and CT coronary angiography. MCHFT has two wide bore 1.5T Siemens Aera MRI scanners, both cardiac enabled with cardiac dot and ugraded high performance gradients. One scanner has advanced cardiac package and Myomaps. MCHFT also has two cardiac enabled GE CT scanners.

The successful applicants will be expected to develop their sub-specialty interests to contribute to the provision of a high-quality, secondary care cardiology service for the population of mid-Cheshire. We are keen to develop stress MRI at Leighton and increase capacity for coronary CT. Applicants with sub-specialist accreditation in cardiac CT, MRI, heart failure or devices will be viewed with favour in order to further develop these local services.

University Hospital of North Midlands

The University Hospital of North Midlands is a great place to work. We employ more than 7,000 staff in Staffordshire, making us a major employer in Stoke on-Trent and the surrounding areas. The hospital provides tertiary Cardiology and Cardiac Surgery services for over three million people across Staffordshire, Shropshire, Derbyshire and South Cheshire, as well as secondary care cardiology for the local population. The service is undergoing substantial expansion and you will join a strong team of 42 existing consultants in the Heart Centre. Planned expansion will increase this to over 50 consultants by the end of 2017.There is a broad range of subspecialty interests including imaging, heart failure, and electrophysiology as well as intervention for coronary, valvular and other structural heart diseases. The service currently performs around 2,500 PCI procedures and 2,000 pacing/E Procedures per annum, as well as a full range of percutaneous structural interventions. There is a full range of adjunctive technologies available for the management of complex PCI cases, and an active primary angioplasty program. There is an award winning heart failure service and a highly developed cardiac imaging service. The cardiac services moved to a new purpose-built hospital site in 2012, with a state of the art integrated cardiothoracic unit which has collocated cardiac services.

The centre has a successful programme of interventional research with a growing cardiovascular academic unit with two professors, is active in national and international educational events, and has strong links with Keele University. There will be opportunities to participate in the research programme. It is anticipated that the successful applicants will have special interest sessions at UHNM, as well as outpatient sessions.
