Mental Health & Learning Disabilities

10 Programmed Activities per week

The imminent retirement of our longest serving colleague has created an exciting opportunity for an ambitious consultant to take on a leadership role within our old age psychiatry service. You must be comfortable working as a member of a multidisciplinary team and display exceptional diplomacy and negotiating skills.

You will be one of three consultants working in old age psychiatry within a geographical sector model. This fulfilling role offers variety and continuity of care, as you will have responsibility for outpatients and inpatients, with dementia or functional psychiatric illness.

You will be part of a service built on clinical excellence. Much of your workload will be within our community memory service, one of the top 14% in the UK recognised as “excellent” by the RCPsych’s Memory Services National Accreditation Programme (MSNAP).

You will refer to our ECT clinic and our home treatment service, each accredited as “excellent” by ECTAS and HTAS respectively.

This rewarding clinical and leadership role is situated in an environment that offers excellent quality of life. The Isle of Wight, off the south coast of England, has a population of 138,000.

It has much to offer in outdoor leisure pursuits and has a lively music scene. It is a beautiful place to live and relax after work. Connections to the mainland are frequent and fast, with a choice of crossings via catamaran, hovercraft, or car ferry, from Southampton or Portsmouth, both of which are 90 minutes by rail from London.

If you enjoy being part of a team, are flexible and approachable and are looking for a stimulating role in psychiatry, we would be delighted to hear from you.

Please contact Dr Rich Braithwaite, Consultant Old Age Psychiatrist and Lead for Psychiatry, on 01983 822099 ext. 5393 or John Doherty, Clinical Director for Mental Health & Learning Disabilities, on ext. 4456.
