Consultant Haematologist

Applications are invited for this full-time Consultant post; this is an additional new post, created to manage increased demand on the service and will be integral to service development and innovation.

The successful applicant will join a team, comprising of 4 Consultant Haematologists, 1 associate specialist, 1 specialist registrar and 2 clinical nurse specialists. The post-holder will manage patients with all haematological diagnoses and will be expected to take the lead in a specialised Haematology work stream.

Candidates should have a wide experience of laboratory and clinical haematology, including the management of acute leukaemia, be fully registered with the GMC, possess FRCPath or equivalent and be listed on the Specialist Register of the GMC, or be due to be listed within 6 months of AAC.

St Helens & Knowsley Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust is comprised of Whiston Hospital and St Helens Hospital which are both state-of-the-art facilities rebuilt as part of a PFI development. It is one of the best performing NHS Trusts as assessed by the Care Quality Commission in 2015 which rated it outstanding for caring. The Trust is also rated as having the Best Patient Experience in the NHS and it ranked as the best acute Trust for 2 years running in the Patient Led Assessment of the Care Experience program. The Trust serves a catchment population of 350,000 but the haematology team also provide BCSH level 2b care to a wider population of 700,000, making it the largest such unit in the Cheshire and Merseyside Strategic Clinical Network.

The Haematology and Transfusion Laboratories are part of Blood Sciences which is based at Whiston Hospital; it is fully CPA accredited and is the senior partner in a managed pathology network with Southport and Ormskirk Hospitals NHS Trust.

Applicants must have full GMC Registration and must be on the Specialty Register or be within 6 months of achieving their CCT from date of Interview.
