THE MIDLAND MET HOSPITAL OPENING 2018

SANDWELL AND CITY HOSPITALS

Applications are invited for this new post to complement the expertise of the other 11 Consultant Cardiologists and 2 Professors in our large teaching trust, one of the leading providers of cardiac services in the West Midlands to a culturally diverse population. The post has no general medical commitment.

SWBH NHS Trust has developed cardiac services significantly recently, with investment in all aspects of infrastructure. Echocardiography, CTCA and CMR have all expanded greatly, leading to the creation of this new post to support the expansion.

The post is currently based primarily at the City Hospital but will have cross site responsibilities. Inpatient services will move to the new, acute ‘Midland Met’ Hospital in Smethwick in October 2018, where the 32-bedded Cardiology unit is adjacent to the Acute Medical Unit and also the Catheter labs and Echo rooms.

Elective cardiac imaging will also continue to be provided at the Birmingham and Sandwell Treatment Centres.

The Trust has a very good reputation for undergraduate and postgraduate teaching with strong links to the University of Birmingham and Health Education West Midlands. The Trust is home to 2 Professors of Cardiology and a research interest would be strongly supported for a suitably qualified applicant.

The Trust is a key partner with the local commissioning group and the local authorities in the Right Care Right Here programme, which seeks to deliver a redevelopment of local health services. The programme includes one of the largestinvest ments in the UK with new facilities in both the acute and community sectors.

Included within this is the new Midland Metropolitan Hospital.

Applicants must be included on the GMC’s Specialist Register in Cardiology, or within 6 months of their expected date of receipt of a CCT, at the time of interview.

Birmingham is a vibrant, multi-cultural city and it is a very exciting place to live and work. It has a population of 1.1 million, the youngest in Europe. Its residents speak over 140 languages and blend different cultures and nationalities with history that is rich in industrial heritage.

The area boasts affordable housing with popular residential districts such as Harborne and Sutton Coldfield an easy commute to either of the main hospital sites. There are a number of very good schools and colleges locally (including a number of independent and grammar schools such as the King Edwards Schools). Birmingham is a very green city with more than 8,000 acres of green space including impressive parks around the city. Due to our central location and good motorway connections we are in easy reach of a number of beautiful rural locations including the Peak District, Cannock Chase, the Lickey Hills and the Cotswolds. The Trust offers a competitive relocation package.
