Consultant Perinatal Psychiatrist[10 PA s]

Applications are invited for 4 posts of Consultant Perinatal Psychiatrist within South London & Maudsley NHS Foundation Trust (SLaM) Specialist Community Perinatal Mental Health Teams. This exciting opportunity has arisen, with expanded new posts through recent NHSE Funding to expand the service. 

This post is ideally suited to an experienced doctor at Consultant level who are pursuing a career in perinatal psychiatry. 

This is a clinical posts are within SLaM, serving the boroughs of Lambeth /Southwark/Lewisham & Croydon. The posts will specifically work with referrals of women with severe mental health difficulties(from pre-conception to a year post partum) from the maternity services in each maternity hospital and borough, primary and secondary mental health care. 

There is perinatal liaison at each acute hospital site. The post holder will join a multidisciplinary team, with an expanded multidisciplinary team of medical, nursing, psychology, nursery nurse, social work, occupational therapists and social role. 

The post-holder will be asked to participate in the perinatal consultant rota across South London & Maudsley Perinatal Services for telephone advice1 day per week and also take part in cross cover for the inpatient Mother and Baby Unit at the Bethlem Royal Hospital. The detailed job plan will be developed and agreed with Dr Ranga Rao, Clinical Director and Dr Trudi Seneviratne, Associate Clinical Director and Psychological Medicine & Integrated Care Clinical Academic Group. 

The post holder will be expected to take an active part in service development, research activities and teaching, including multiagency teaching and should have good experience of these.
