Applications are invited for a Consultant post in Cellular Pathology to join our cellular pathology department. The department provides a comprehensive cellular pathology service to Sandwell and West Birmingham Hospitals NHS Trust, which is a part of the Black Country Pathology, a new model of collaboration for Pathology.

You will join a team of nine consultants including this post, working alongside an experienced team of biomedical scientists and an Advanced Practitioner. The Team provides a diagnostic service in both Histology and Non-gynae Cytology to the Trust. SWBH histopathology laboratory handles a wide variety of specimens, and you will be encouraged to develop an area of expertise suitable to the needs of the Department and can be informally discussed with the CD. Head and Neck, Urology and breast pathology are key areas that the successful candidate can consider helping to take the department forward.

At present the Histopathology laboratory is based at City Hospital, Birmingham and undertakes work from GPs and our hospitals. However the Trust will be reconfiguring its services and the post holder may therefore be required to work at any of the Trust’s sites with a likely move of the main Histopathology Department to our Sandwell Hospital site in the near future. This post may also require multi-site working in the future in collaboration with our partner trusts within the Black Country Pathology.

For an informal discussion please contact Dr Rachna Awasthi, Clinical Director – Histopathology on 0121 507 6484 and/or Professor Jonathan Berg, Pathology Group Director on 0121 507 5353.
