Clinical Professor in Data Science Applied to Health and Medicine
Lancaster University wishes to appoint a Clinical Professor as part of a broader set of appointments to contribute to the next phase of the development of Lancaster Medical School (LMS). The University has long-standing research strength in interdisciplinary data science, and the appointee will continue to develop this work through the application of data science to health and medicine. She / he will hold a clinical appointment at University Hospitals of Morecambe Bay NHS Foundation Trust and undertake clinical sessions in his / her speciality in collaboration with LMS (as part of the Faculty of Health and Medicine).
This post is jointly funded and offered in association with the Trust, with the post-holder spending half of their time working for each organisation. This professorship (as part of a broader set of clinical appointments) represents a commitment by the Faculty to contribute to the development and expansion of LMS. The appointee will be expected to lead research initiatives across the University and the NHS Trust, resulting in publications in leading international peer-reviewed academic journals. S/he will also contribute to teaching on the Lancaster undergraduate medical programme (MBChB), and attract and supervise PhD students.
The University has developed strength in interdisciplinary data science with initiatives including the cross-university Data Science Institute and the Centre for Health Informatics, Computing, and Statistics (CHICAS) within LMS. The Faculty of Health and Medicine was ranked 3rd in its field in the most recent Research Assessment Framework (2014) on the 'intensity weighted' score, equal 1st in 'research environment' and in the top 10 for 'research power', positioning the Faculty as an ideal academic environment. The University prides itself on its innovative and interdisciplinary approach to Health, as exemplified by the development of the Health Innovation Campus. This £41 million Campus will house the Faculty of Health and Medicine, as well as focusing on developing partnerships between businesses, public and third sector organisations, and community user groups.
