Consultant Medical Microbiologist (Full Time)
Applications are invited for the post of Consultant Medical Microbiologist. The post holder will be based at Sunderland Royal Hospital as part of a team providing clinical medical microbiology, antimicrobial management and stewardship, infection control and teaching activities to City Hospitals Sunderland NHS Foundation Trust and surrounding general practitioners. Laboratory services are provided from a state-of-the art laboratory at a neighbouring Trust.
With the creation of this post, staffing establishment in the department will be 4.5 WTE consultants (of which 0.5 WTE is allocated to undergraduate teaching) plus one trainee medical microbiologist on the Health Education England North East rotation. However further changes are anticipated in the near future.
For the successful candidate the department will make all efforts to accommodate particular clinical interests and/or requests for flexible working.
Candidates must be friendly, hardworking, clinically-orientated, flexible and willing to work as part of a team. Candidates must be fully registered on the UK General Medical Council's Specialist Register in Medical Microbiology & Virology. Specialty Trainees may apply if within 6 months of CCT at date of the interview.
Experience of working in medical microbiology in the United Kingdom and Membership/Fellowship of the Royal College of Pathologists or equivalent are desirable, as is a post-graduate qualification based on clinical experience (e.g. MRCP) or research (e.g. MD).
