Independent Medical Practitioners
If you want to deliver an exceptional level of medical care in an independent organisation, working on behalf of the NHS, choose to do it for a national charity which provides abortion and sexual healthcare services to women and men across the UK.
Whether you have one day a week to spare or more, we would love to hear from you if you have an interest in working for BPAS.
We are looking for self-employed Doctors to work in the following roles:
Middlesbrough, Oxford or the North West
Plus further ad hoc opportunities available nationally for those prepared to travel
You will be an experienced provider of abortion care, engaged on a sessional basis to deliver surgical and medical terminations of pregnancy and related services as part of a dedicated multi-disciplinary team.
Skills in surgical terminations of pregnancy in the first trimester and of gynaecological and/or obstetric ultrasound are required. A background in gynaecology and/or sexual and reproductive healthcare is preferred. Experience of manual vacuum aspiration and a willingness to train to perform surgical abortion beyond the first trimester would be an advantage.
You will undertake medical appraisal of doctors with a prescribed connection to BPAS and act as the appraisal lead for the organisation. You will have already completed appraiser training, and as an experienced appraiser you will be expected to carry out up to 5-10 appraisals per year within assigned timeframes, reporting appraisal outcomes to our Responsible Officer. You will also oversee and co-ordinate the activities of other appraisers, ensuring that effective systems are in place to meet GMC and BPAS requirements.
For either role, you will be a self-employed practitioner, engaged under our Practising Privileges Scheme at a rate agreed at the point of engagement. To be engaged as a Treatment Doctor, your own indemnity insurance cover is essential. Some travel may be necessary in the Appraiser role; however reasonable expenses will be reimbursed.
