An exciting opportunity exists for a Consultant Microbiologist to join the team within Berkshire and Surrey Pathology Services, a joint venture between the Ashford & St. Peter’s Hospitals, Royal Surrey County Hospital, Frimley Health and Royal Berkshire NHS Foundation Trusts. The current arrangement is that you will be based at St. Peter’s Hospital providing comprehensive microbiology and infection prevention & control services to the Trust and community users in the catchment area along with two other full time consultant colleagues.

The laboratory has full CPA accreditation, with facilities based at three sites. Laboratories based at Frimley Park Hospital and Wexham Park Hospital provide a full range of microbiological investigations, including routine culture, mycobacteriology, mycology and parasitology. Virology laboratory facilities are at St. Peter’s Hospital and include molecular diagnostics and serology. We are committed to exploring new ways of working and have Kiestra and MALDI-TOF.

Ashford & St. Peter’s Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust is the largest provider of acute services to residents of Surrey and a growing proportion of West London residents, totalling more than 380,000 people. The Trust provides a broad range of acute healthcare services across its two hospital sites with a combined total bed allocation of approximately 550.

You will hold the new consultant contract with 10 Programmed Activities. The post currently involves 1 in 3 on-call cover attracting an 8% on-call supplement.

You must be a registered medical practitioner and on the Specialist Register of the GMC or be eligible on the specialist register within three months of the date of the Advisory Appointment Committee.

The post is ideally suited to applicants with microbiology training or microbiology/infectious diseases joint training.
