Clinical Senior Lecturer/Reader/Chair in Renal Medicine
Salary dependent on level of appointment and seniority
Full-time, open-ended appointment

The Division of Immunology and Inflammation at Imperial College London is seeking to make academic appointments in the Renal and Vascular Inflammation Section in order to build on existing strengths.

Research in renal medicine in the Faculty of Medicine includes a wide range of research into the causes and treatment of renal disease, from basic laboratory science through experimental medicine to clinical trials.  The research activity of the Section is closely linked to the clinical research in the Renal and Transplant Directorate, supported by the NIHR Imperial BRC.

Particular areas of clinical research interest are; primary glomerulonephritis, secondary glomerulonephritis, chronic kidney disease, renal transplantation, and dialysis.  The Section has strong links with the Imperial College Renal and Transplant Centre, which ensures a “bench to bedside” approach, and provides excellent opportunities for collaboration.  Members of the Section contribute to undergraduate and postgraduate teaching in renal medicine and immunology.

These posts are supported by a generous donation from the Burman family.

These academic appointments will extend and enhance our existing research portfolio.  The level of appointment (Senior Lecturer, Reader or Professor) and the supporting package will be determined according to experience and research profile using the following broad guidelines:

Clinical Senior Lecturer

You will have extensive professional experience and be able to demonstrate a reputation in the area of renal medicine based on their achievements in research. You will be expected to demonstrate their potential for independence through their body of original research work.

Clinical Reader

You will have developed an international reputation based on a track record of research shown to influence the area of renal medicine, and be able to consistently demonstrate the ability to attract research income.

Clinical Professor

You will be able to demonstrate a sustained international reputation based on an extensive track record of research with a major influence in the area of renal medicine and a significant impact shown, for example, through consistent influence on research income.

You will be required to contribute to the clinical service and to the on-call rota, together with clinical academic colleagues, at a frequency of 1 in 10.  You will also be required to attend the regular MDT meetings and management meetings.

Imperial College provides an outstanding environment for basic, clinical and translational research, and supports academics through tailored training programmes, with mentoring and comprehensive administrative support. As an expert in the field and having the ability to develop your original ideas and lead a research group, this is a fantastic opportunity for your work to be among the best.

Imperial College is supportive of part-time working. The department is happy to discuss the possibility of implementing such arrangements for this post with suitably qualified people subject to operational requirements.
