University Hospitals Bristol NHS Foundation Trust is a thriving group of hospitals based in the very heart of the vibrant, growing and culturally diverse city of Bristol. We are one of the country's largest acute NHS Trusts with a 2016/2017 budget of £630 million and have recently opened a brand new, purpose built 32 bedded Acute Medical Unit. This is right next to our emergency and radiology departments allowing rapid access to diagnostic facilities and ensuring integration of teams. We already have a team of seven junior doctors and a highly motivated nursing, therapists and pharmacy team.

Our vision, with the full support of our CEO and senior management team and with significant investment, is to integrate and expand this impressive facility and to further develop our acute medical and ambulatory care services. This is an excellent opportunity to get in at the start and help shape our future as we strive to become one of the leaders in Acute Medicine.

We have recently recruited two very experienced Acute Physicians, one Acute Medicine Lead and one Ambulatory Care Lead. We are now looking for a third consultant to allow us to fulfil our initial vision of Acute Physicians running the AMU, the on call and ambulatory care 11 hours a day, Monday to Friday, 52 weeks a year. We would be particularly interested in recruiting a newly qualified consultant. The timetable has been devised by our current Acute Physicians and will be very similar for all three consultants. Once this post is recruited we will be looking to rapidly expand our consultant body further.

Our Trust is closely linked with the University of Bristol, and has access to excellent research facilities. The acute team will be in a perfect position to develop both an undergraduate and postgraduate teaching and training programme. As well as an attractive salary and benefits package we can also offer you Bristol as a new home. Recently voted the best city in the UK to live in, you will have no regrets about moving to our wonderful city.

Applicants are for a 6 to 12 month initially locum position; we are currently applying to the college to make the job substantive.
