Mid Cheshire NHS Foundation Trust is proud to offer an outstanding opportunity for a new Consultant General Radiologist. This is a new post to meet increasing demand for cross sectional imaging. The successful candidate will join a dynamic team of 9 Consultant Radiologists within the Medical Imaging Department at Leighton Hospital, which sits as part of the Diagnostic& Clinical Support Services Division. The department has a track record for innovation with long standing well established services in CT Colonography, Small Bowel MRI, Cardiac CT and Cardiac MRI.
The post holder will be expected to provide a general radiological service comprising CT, MRI, ultrasound and plain film reporting. A subspecialty interest, however, would be actively encouraged and there is great scope for this.
Mid Cheshire Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust provides a comprehensive range of acute, cancer, maternity and child health services to a population of 300,000living in the boroughs of Congleton, Crewe, Nantwich and Vale Royal. Close links exist with the University Hospitals in Stoke on Trent, Liverpool and Manchester.
The department is equipped with two GE cardiac enabled CT scanners (Light speed VCTXTE and Optima 660) and has recently installed two Siemens Aera 1.5T cardiac MRI scanners. There is one Siemens Artis Zee interventional suite, 11 Toshiba US machines, 1 DEXA and 2 digital mammography units. The department has undergone major refurbishment as part of the equipment replacement scheme and has also invested in 4 replacement DR general rooms. A business case is currently being progressed for a 3rd MRI scanner and a 3rdCT scanner to be installed in the near future.
The role of the advanced practitioner has been expanded with Radiographers and Sonographers independently reporting a wide range of examinations.
On call is via Teleradiology from Consultants’ homes and partially supported by trainees. Emergency CT between 2000 and 0700 during the week and between1700 and 0700 at the weekends is outsourced and reported by an external provider (Nighthawk).
A Soliton RIS system with Speech Magic voice recognition was installed in September 2015. This is to be followed by order comms this year with a view toa paperless department by August 2017. The department is currently pursuing options to implement remote reporting sessions from home to increase job plan flexibility.

The Trust’s new recruitment premium means that individuals choosing to come and work at MCHFT in the role of Consultant Radiologist will benefit from an additional £22,800 on appointment, in addition to their basic salary, with an additional £22,800 paid at the completion of four years’ service. The premiums are in addition to relocation packages of up to £8,000 being offered by the Trust to successful candidates.
