An exciting opportunity has arisen to appoint two Consultant Cardiologists with an interest in acute medicine to work across the Cardiff & Vale University Health Board. 

These new substantive posts will be will complement the present team of ten full-time Clinical Cardiologists dedicated to the delivery of tertiary cardiac services of the highest standard to a population of 1.3 million people. 

The successful applicants will be required to support the management and flow of acute medical admissions through the A&E and Medical Assessment Units to provide cardiology expertise in the acute management of heart failure, chest pain syndromes and acute arrhythmia disorders. The post holders must be dual accredited and will participate in both the cardiology on-call rota (0.5 general cardiologist on-call commitment which equates to 1:17 weeks and 1:13 weekends on-call) and the internal medicine on-call rota (approximately 1:22). The cardiology sessions can be tailored according to the training and interests of the successful candidates but would be relevant to general cardiology e.g imaging sessions, functional assessment, heart failure MDT, device implantation etc. The Acute Medicine sessions would be in the Medical Admissions Units at either University Hospital of Wales or University Hospital Llandough.

Commitments to undergraduate and postgraduate teaching are expected of all Consultants in the department and ample opportunities for research are offered through strong links with the Welsh Heart Research Institute which is based at the University Hospital of Wales.

Applicants should either be on the Specialist Register or be a Specialist Registrar within six months of their expected date of receipt of a CCT / CESR(CP) at the time of interview.
