Fixed Term Position
Here at Auckland City Hospital, we’re looking for a Neonatal Fellow to join us on a fixed term basis in our Newborn Service. The initial appointment will be for 12 months, which can be extended for a further 12 months with mutual agreement.
Auckland City Hospital has over 7000 deliveries per year and provides a wide range of Perinatal and Neonatal services, including Fetal Medicine, Neonatal Surgery, Paediatric cardiology and Genetics. Our Neonatal Unit is linked with both a large Fetal Medicine/Obstetric Unit and Starship Children’s Health. The Neonatal Unit is funded for 40 cots overall including 18 Intensive Care cots and two intensive isolation cots. Newborn Services at ACH is an integrated medical and surgical unit. The Newborn Services provide air and road transport services for the region.
Duties will involve clinical care, teaching and research. Several previous incumbents have moved on to take full time research posts and obtained higher degrees. You will have the opportunity to learn and practice echocardiography skills. There is strong Neonatal nursing support with a mixture of highly experienced and enthusiastic younger staff. We pride ourselves on the close working relationship between medical and nursing staff.
This position would be most suitable for a paediatric trainee who wishes to undertake training to become either a neonatologist or a general paediatrician with a special interest in neonates. Previous experience in paediatric neonatology or ICU is desirable but not essential. Completion of core training in general, neonatal and core paediatrics is essential.
You must be eligible for registration with the Medical Council of New Zealand and hold either part 1 of the FRACP or an equivalent postgraduate qualification.
