Specialist Division, Learning Disabilities Service

Birmingham Community Healthcare NHS Foundation Trust delivers person centred community health services for people with learning disability.

Our ambition is to achieve Better Care and Healthier Communities. To this end the Learning Disabilities Service has completed a service redesign to establish an integrated multidisciplinary team approach to delivering care in the community. In keeping with the goal of maintaining care at, or as close as possible to, home we have achieved a substantial reduction in hospital admissions and we have moved on to the next phase of service development aimed at eliminating unnecessary hospital admission. This further development is being carried out in close cooperation with commissioners and the resulting Transforming Care plans have been highly commended by NHS England.

We are looking for a highly motivated and capable consultant psychiatrist to deliver community psychiatric care as part of an integrated multidisciplinary team while taking on a leadership role in the continuing development and improvement of services. The post holder will join 7 other consultant psychiatrists for people with intellectual disability who work with integrated multidisciplinary teams to meet the specialist healthcare needs of the population of approximately 1 million.

As the UK’s second city Birmingham is an attractive place to live and work. It has excellent transport links by road, rail and air travel. The city is a regional centre for shopping and leisure. It has a culturally diverse community and this is reflected in the range of international cuisine on offer.
