The University Hospital of the North Midlands Heart Centre is seeking to appoint two locum Consultant Cardiologists. Any sub-specialty interest will be considered and the successful candidates will contribute to the provision of general and sub-specialty cardiology services across the newly merged Royal Stoke Hospital and County Hospital sites. It is envisaged that both posts will be replaced by substantive appointments within the next 18-months.

The Heart Centre at UHNM is one of the largest and busiest in the UK. It provides tertiary cardiology and cardiac surgery services for over 2 million people across Staffordshire, Shropshire, Derbyshire and South Cheshire, as well secondary care cardiology for the local population. Cardiology provision within UHNM has recently undergone substantial expansion and you will join a strong team of 22 consultant cardiologists.

There is a broad range of subspecialty interests including imaging (cardiac ultrasound, cardiac MRI and CT), heart failure and complex cardiac rhythm management as well as intervention for coronary, valvular and other structural heart diseases. Furthermore, there is a highly fruitful academic cardiovascular unit which has a well-developed link with Keele university and international reputations for epidemiological, clinical trial and interventional cardiology research.

Royal Stoke University Hospital is a large, acute teaching hospital in the West Midlands and offers a broad range of medical and surgical specialties. We have excellent transport links, being close to the M6 and A50, and lie roughly centrally between Manchester and Birmingham to the North and South, and Derby and Shrewsbury to the East and West.

Applicants require full GMC Registration and ideally should be within 6 months of obtaining a CCT.
