Applications are invited for a Consultant Hepatologist and Liver Transplant Physician at the Royal Free Hospital, London. This is a permanent position and is a replacement post.
The appointee will contribute to the medical liver transplant and hepatology services. They will be expected to be expert in assessment of liver transplant candidates and the management of patients following liver transplantation. An additional sub-specialist interest is essential and can be negotiated according to the experience of the appointee and needs of the department.
The post is fully NHS funded and will focus on clinical service. The Unit has an excellent reputation for clinical research and it is essential for the appointee to have interest and experience in basic or clinical research, including successful completion of a research degree. An interest in translational research will be encouraged.
An appropriate academic appointment and research sessions with UCL Medical School will be sought depending upon the qualifications and ambition of the individual. The appointee would be expected to participate in teaching for medical students and doctors in training.
The Royal Free Hospital is situated in North London. The Liver Transplant service at the Royal Free began in 1988 and since that time over 1700 patients have received liver transplants. The activity has increased in recent years and has reached more than 100 transplants per year for the last two years. There is an active living donor transplantation programme. We work with a network of referring hospitals across a large geographical area and participate in outreach clinics with partner hospitals to offer local liver transplant care.
Within the department there is a wide spectrum of clinical and academic expertise and we welcome applicants with a subspecialist interest complementary to existing themes. For example, there are a number of sub-specialist and multidisciplinary clinics including viral hepatitis, vascular liver diseases, decompensated cirrhosis, alcohol related liver disease, HPB medicine, autoimmune liver diseases, NAFLD, Wilson’s, Alpha 1 antitrypsin deficiency, HCC and pregnancy related liver disease.
