Consultant in General Surgery
Applications are invited for the above substantive full-time post for this 650 bed acute hospital serving a local population of approximately 360,000.
You will join an existing team of 6 Upper GI surgeons (one of who also carries out Paediatric Surgery) and 6 Colorectal surgeons. Skills in laparoscopic surgery would be essential and some skills in paediatric surgey would be beneficial but not absolutely necessary; There is training available for general paediatric surgery as a part of the job due to the need to expand our practice in this area.
Candidates who already have subspeciality interest in alternative fields are encouraged to apply. There will be opportunity to pursue other interests, however paediatric surgery will remain an essential component. (Please contact Mr Jain if you wish to discuss this part of the job). The on call commitment is 1:9 with prospective cover.
There are currently 12 Consultants in General Surgery with sub-specialty interests and 6 Consultants in Urology with supporting junior medical staff.

The surrounding areas are both urban and rural and there is very good access to central London, the Midlands and the North via the M1 and A1. London Luton Airport is also within twenty minutes of the hospital.
Residence is required within ten miles by road or up to thirty minutes travelling time of the hospital.
Applicants must be fully registered on the UK General Medical Council’s Specialist Register. Specialist Registrars may apply if within six months of CCT at the date of interview. Candidates unable for personal reasons to work full-time are invited to apply.
