The Nobles Hospital team is looking to recruit a consultant in general urological surgery to work on a 10PA contract. The post is based at Noble’s Hospital which is a modern, bright hospital serving the acute healthcare needs of the Isle of Man.

Like the UK NHS, the Isle of Man Health Service is free at the point of delivery.

The successful candidate will be working within a multidisciplinary team comprising two consultant urologists (including this post) and 1.5WTE Clinical Nurse Specialists, supported by two experienced medical secretaries.

Currently most general urology is undertaken on the island, with complex urology and uro-oncology being referred to partner hospitals in the North West of England. However the strategy of the Isle of Man Department of Health is to develop on-island services so that, wherever possible, patients can be safely treated and followed up on the island.

Applicants should have comprehensive experience and training in Urology. They should be competent in all aspects of core urology. The new appointee should be able to willing and able to develop an interest to complement the needs of the department. In particular the department would like to develop an on-island service to manage upper tract stone disease and also build on existing expertise within paediatric urology and urogynaecology.

Noble’s Hospital operates a well-resourced education and training centre called Keyll Darree, which comprises lecture theatre, well stocked medical library, training facilities and a state of the art simulation lab which is operated by trained simulation practitioners. Frequent simulation based surgical training programmes are run from the lab as well as drills to practice emergency procedures.

The Isle of Man is a self-governing dependency within the British Isles. The Terms and Conditions of service are essentially the same as in the United Kingdom with enhancements such as automatic inclusion of discretionary points (CEA equivalent) in the incremental pay scale, and Category A allowances for all on call work.
