Imperial College Healthcare NHS Trust is recruiting to a full time (10 PAs) Consultant in Anaesthesia and Pain Medicine post, as well as a part time (6 PAs) Consultant in Pain Medicine post, with a special interest in Cancer Pain.

The successful applicants will be based at Charing Cross Hospital. There are no on-call commitments attached to these posts, but some of the anaesthetic work may be carried out as evening or weekend activity. The anaesthetic commitment of the full time post is 2.5 PAs per week. There is also the option to swap the anaesthetic sessions for acute pain ward rounds to accommodate the candidates’ preference.

The Pain Medicine department, based at Charing Cross Hospital, is a very busy and gradually expanding multidisciplinary department.  The dynamic team of 6 chronic Pain Consultants, Pain Specialist Nurses, Acupuncturist, Physiotherapist and Clinical Psychologists is supported by a Business Manager, a General Manager and three clinic Administrators.

The Anaesthetic department at Charing Cross provides service to a wide variety of specialties including Neurosurgery, interventional Radiology, ENT/head and neck, Trauma and Orthopaedics, General Surgery, Plastics and Urology. It also includes a pre-operative assessment service. The directorate of anaesthesia includes 90 substantive consultants trust wide, many of whom work cross-site. The departments have active teaching and research programmes.

ICHNT is one of the largest education, training and research centres nationally; it is the clinical partner of the Imperial Academic Health Science Centre. Both the Pain Medicine and Anaesthetic departments take teaching and training seriously, have an active postgraduate and undergraduate teaching programme and simulation training. The successful applicants will be encouraged to contribute to these.
