Applications are invited for a Consultant Physician in Acute Medicine. This is a substantive appointment based at Lister Hospital in Stevenage. The post comprises of 10 programmed activities (Pas) and an on-call commitment, for 10.5 PAs in total, which could be modified for a candidate preferring to work 10 PAs or less than full time.

East and North Hertfordshire NHS Trust is in a new era with its recent hospital developments at the Lister Hospital in Stevenage. Our new Emergency department and Acute Medical assessment developments will revolutionise the life of our staff and patients. As part of these exciting changes we are seeking to appoint a full time Consultant Physician in Acute Medicine.

This post is pivotal in the further development of Acute Medical services and Senior Clinician supported seven day model, offering the successful applicants the opportunity to work closely with the existing Acute Consultant Physicians to provide a high standard of Acute care across the Trust. We are seeking consultants with enthusiasm, commitment and drive to work closely with colleagues throughout the organisation and within the community to develop and provide clear, coherent pathways of care for our patients and help lead the organisation to “be amongst the best”.

Applications from Consultants with specialist interest allied to Acute Medicine and those with CCT in General Internal Medicine are also invited to apply. Candidates with a CCT in any medical speciality or with a specialist skill associated with an Acute Medicine CCT are encourages to discuss the opportunities to maintain and develop this interest with dedicated sessions in a job plan. We wold suggest discussing this prior to application or shortlisting but would be keen to support any speciality provided at the Lister, including Stroke Medicine, Critical Care or Education.

Following the investment of £150 million in major new facilities at the Lister, along with £30 million New QEII hospital built by the local clinical commissioning group, the East and North Hertfordshire NHS Trust has brought together all its specialist emergency inpatient services at the Stevenage hospital. Our state of-the-art clinical facilities include a major new Emergency department, the Hertfordshire Cardiology centre (which includes a 24/7 PPCI service), a new scanning centre, McMillan chemotherapy unit, ward, endoscopy and theatre blocks. The Trust has recently been accredited with University status and has strong links with the University of Hertfordshire.

Applicants must be on the Specialist register for Acute or General Internal medicine, or be within 6 months of doing so at the time of interview. Applications from those wishing to work part-time or job share are welcomed.
