Consultant Clinical Oncologist
with specialist interest in Gynae-oncology and Breast cancer

The University Hospitals Bristol NHS Foundation Trust (UHBristol) is looking to appoint a dynamic and enthusiastic Consultant Clinical Oncologist.  The post (9PAs) is based at the Bristol Cancer Institute and at Weston General Hospital (WGH). The appointed consultant will work with established teams to address issues of increasing workload and sub-specialisation. The post is part of the closer relationship developing cancer services between Bristol and Weston, strengthening MDT links and developing joint pathways of care.

It is anticipated the appointed consultant will work 3 days/week in Bristol and 1 day/week in Weston. The current outline job plan focuses on treatment of patients with gynaecologic cancers and breast cancer. UHBristol is one of the largest acute Trusts in the country and the major teaching and research centre for the South West. The trust was awarded ‘Outstanding’ status in 2017 by the Care Quality Commission. 
The successful candidate will join a team of 40 (not all full time) consultants in oncology, haematology and palliative care. The Bristol Cancer Institute is part of the Bristol Haematology and Oncology Centre (BHOC), providing services to a catchment population of 2.2 million people. The centre receives about 5,500 new referrals each year. 

Significant new investment is ongoing in the Bristol Cancer Institute. The radiotherapy department offers IMRT, high dose rate brachytherapy, SABR and Gamma Knife stereotactic radiosurgery. Adult chemotherapy is delivered in our 30 bedded in-patient unit, 20 chair chemotherapy day unit or in our two community units. The South West Teenage and Young Adult unit opened in 2014 providing specialist in- and out- patient facilities. There is an active clinical trials unit with close links to the University of Bristol and the University of the West of England. Over 100 clinical trials are currently open and the successful candidates will be encouraged to develop teaching and research opportunities. 

Weston Area Health NHS Trust provides acute services for a 200,000-strong local population and for 2.5 million summer visitors to this popular West Country seaside resort. The hospital building was opened in 1986 and has been extended to include a dedicated education building, a day-case unit and a 9 chair haematology /oncology chemotherapy day unit. There is an enthusiastic and active clinical trials team at the trust who are very keen to support new studies and participation in cancer trials. The Trust employs 2000 staff and provides 259 beds. 

Bristol has an exciting and diverse culture with excellent schools. It was voted by the Sunday Times in 2017 as the best city in Britain to live in. There is quick access to the South West of England, Wales and London.

The successful candidate must be on the Specialist Register of the GMC with a valid licence to practice in line with the introduction of revalidation on 16 November 2009. They will have completed Specialist Training (or equivalent), or have a CCT date in Clinical Oncology within six months of the date of interview.
