Applications are invited from dynamic and motivated individuals to expand our current complement of 11.2 whole time consultants by 1 new post.

Expertise in ERCP or nutrition is sought primarily but other specialist skillsets would be looked upon favourably including complex endoscopy, bowel cancer screening or complex IBD. The new appointees would have general luminal gastroenterology and endoscopy skills in addition.

The trust comprises of 3 inter-linked hospitals including Solihull, Heartlands and Good Hope Hospital and successful appointees would be expected to work across site albeit based predominantly at Good Hope Hospital. The trust serves a population of 1 million and currently provides in-patient and out-patient gastroenterology at all sites and a total of 8 endoscopy (3 at Good Hope) rooms across the trust carrying out circa 22,000 procedures per annum.

A new 4 roomed endoscopy unit is in the planning stage to open on the Heartlands site to replace the existing 2 room facility. Basic endoscopy, ERCP (5 lists a week cross site), Spyscope, EUS ( 3 lists a week), Capsule Endoscopy, Double balloon enteroscopy, complex therapeutic colonoscopy and bowel cancer screening are all catered for cross site and upper & lower GI physiology services are provided across the trust. The trust has recently procured new endoscopy software Endobase and is currently negotiating a managed endoscopy service with all new Olympus equipment expected in February 2017.

The department is very busy and has a strong foundation in complex IBD, HPB work, nutrition and also blossoming IBD and viral hepatology research interests.

We work closely with our surgical colleagues including 10 colorectal surgeons, 6 upper GI surgeons as well as 3 GI radiologists with an excellent interventiona radiology department all of whom are closely involved in cancer MDT & complex GI work. We are supported across sites by 5 registrars, 2 fellows, 4.6 IBD specialist nurses, 4 HPB/Upper GI specialist nurses, 5 nutrition nurses and dedicated GI dieticians as well as 3 nurse endoscopists.

There is currently a 1 in 11 GI bleed rota covering Good Hope and Heartlands.

In-patient work is catered for at Heartlands and Good Hope only and with some acute medicine in-patient at Good Hope currently.
