Consultant in General internal Medicine (Acute General Medicine)
Applications are invited for a consultant post in Acute General Medicine (AGM) at the Oxford University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust (OUHFT). The OUHFT comprises four hospitals: John Radcliffe, Nuffield Orthopaedic Centre, Churchill Hospital and the Horton General Hospital.
This is an exciting time to join Acute General Medicine at Oxford University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust and become part of a consultant workforce with a reputation for excellence. We are seeking enthusiastic colleagues who are skilled in acute care and can interface with the Emergency Department and other specialties.
Acute General Medicine is organised in such a way as to promote continuity with up to 70% of patients being admitted and discharged under the care of the same consultant. Junior doctor rotas are engineered to support this continuity and maintain a team structure. Feedback from the juniors as a result is universally positive. We are an energetic department, which is continually evolving in response to local and national changes in urgent care.
We work in a flexible modular way that allows the opportunity for on-going consultant career development. Those with subspecialty interests are welcomed and most areas can be supported. The Trust is looking to expand its base of consultants to support developments in ambulatory care, point of care ultrasound, L1 beds and perioperative care.
We would support new colleagues in developing interests in teaching and leadership roles. The Trust is a clinically led organisation and AGM colleagues already play key roles. Research activities are developing and new appointments would hopefully support this.
The Trust has recently been awarded £10 million from NHS Digital as one of 12 Trusts on a fast track to becoming paperless. AGM has been at the forefront of this change having led the e-prescribing rollout. New colleagues are expected to support this ongoing work; training will be provided.
The appointment is on a full-time basis. Applications are welcome from those who wish to job share or from those looking to combine clinical work with a research career or educational interest. Those with academic and subspecialty interests are encouraged to discuss the opportunities that are available.
Candidates are highly recommended to visit the department and hospital and are invited to contact Dr Matthew Giles, Clinical Lead for AGM, Dr Sudhir Singh, Clinical Director (tel: 01865 234848).
