Consultant in Stroke Medicine
We are an innovative and ambitious service. We have recently introduced an 8am to 8pm, 7 day per week consultant-led system of care with a 1 in 10 weekend commitment, supported by a team of specialist stroke nurses on duty till midnight.
This has resulted in a dramatic improvement in our thrombolysis times: this year we have treated 89% of eligible patients within one hour of hospital arrival.
In total we have treated 40 patients with Mechanical Thrombectomy (MT) and a second neuro-angiography suite is being installed this autumn to facilitate expansion of this service. We aim to start a routine MT service for local patients in early 2018 and are laying plans for a routine Wessex-wide regional service as soon as is practical.
We have a strong emphasis on education, for stroke service staff and for medical students, and we take part in a number of national and international research projects assisted by our stroke research nurses.
This post affords the opportunity to join a stroke service that is moving from good to excellent, that embraces new ways of doing things, and which is on the cusp of acting as the hub to a regional MT service. We are looking for someone who will complement our direction of travel.
