Applications are invited for a full time (substantive or short term) consultant post in Gynaecological Oncology, based at the Gynaecological Cancer Centre in Northampton General Hospital, to start as soon as possible.

The successful candidate will make up a team of 3 Gynaecological Oncologists within the Northamptonshire Cancer Centre which has an excellent reputation, scoring 100% on National Peer Review for many years. We provide a service to a population of just under 1 million, drawn from the catchment area of Northampton General Hospital and from Cancer Units at Kettering and Milton Keynes, all co-ordinated by weekly video-conferences.

Radiotherapy and Chemotherapy services are based on site at the Northamptonshire Cancer Centre with further Chemotherapy Services at the two Cancer Units.

The full range of surgical services are provided at the Northamptonshire Cancer Centre, including radical cytoreduction, advanced laparoscopic surgery (including laparoscopic radical hysterectomy) and sentinel lymph Node sampling for vulval cancer. Laparoscopic surgery is well established with over 80% of endometrial cancers having their surgery by this route so expertise in this field would be very useful.

There is no Obstetric commitment and joint operating lists are established for major cases so this post would suit either a newly qualified or well established Gynaecological Oncologist.

Cancer Centres at Northampton and Leicester have developed strong links and together cover a resident population of over 2 million, across a South East Midlands Network. We share a joint Gynae Oncology Fellow and have recently centralised Exenterative surgery at Leicester, utilising a surgical team from both sites.

There is the potential for further joint service development, including developing a Robotic surgery team in order to improve access to laparoscopic hysterectomy across the whole network.

Applicants must meet the requirements of the GMC, Royal College of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists and be accredited or be within 6 months of accreditation (or equivalent) as a sub-specialist Gynaecological Oncologist. This post would suit a candidate looking for either a long term substantive post or a shorter term post – when applying please make it clear what type of post you are applying for.
