10 Programmed Activities
Applications are invited for a fourth full time Consultant Rheumatologist to join the dynamic, progressive and cohesive rheumatology unit at Hereford County Hospital.
The current team consists of three consultants, a trust grade doctor, specialist registrar, four rheumatology nurse specialists, an osteoporosis nurse specialist, clinical pharmacist, physiotherapists and occupational therapists. The department is very well regarded within the Trust and actively supported by the Trust board. It provides rheumatology services to Herefordshire, South Shropshire, Mid Powys and parts of Worcestershire
and Gloucestershire with community hospital clinics held in Ross-on-Wye, Ledbury, Ludlow and Llandrindod Wells. The department is currently developing a full satellite rheumatology service in Llandrindod, Powys which in part funds this new post.
The full range of rheumatology services are provided including paediatric and adolescent rheumatology clinics and an osteoporosis service. The department has particular expertise in the management of ANCA associated vasculitis, early infl ammatory arthritis and musculoskeletal ultrasound. There is an innovative biologics gain share agreement in place with Herefordshire CCG which has funded the rheumatology clinical pharmacist, biologics database and co-ordinator.
The department has an active clinical research programme, is involved in regional and national audit and the regular teaching of Birmingham undergraduate medical students.
Herefordshire provides a beautiful rural backdrop to the vibrant city of Hereford. The city has an excellent range of schools and cultural and sporting facilities. The surrounding market towns provide further opportunities for both living and entertainment with award winning cuisine in Ludlow and the world famous bookshops of Hay-on-Wye never far away.
The job plan is for 10 programmed activities divided into 7.5 direct clinical sessions, including sessions at Llandrindod community hospital and 2.5 supporting professional activities. Sub-specialisation would be strongly supported and job plans can be tailored to facilitate this.
